RETScreen
Pre-feasibility Analysis Software (1999), Natural Resources,
Canada: Canmet,
Energy Diversification Research Lab
'The RETScreen Renewable Energy Project Analysis Software
has been developed by Natural Resources Canada's CANMET
Energy Diversification Research Laboratory (CEDRL) in collaboration
with numerous experts from industry and government. The
preliminary feasibility analysis software, which runs on
MicrosoftÒ Excel, makes it possible to evaluate Renewable
Energy Technology (RET) projects quickly and effectively.
With RETScreen, users are able to prepare a preliminary
evaluation of the annual energy production, costs and financial
viability of RET projects anywhere in the world. An online
user manual and several databases are now provided with
Version 99 of the software to further facilitate its use.'
'The RETScreen Small Hydro Model can be used to evaluate
projects typically classified under the following three
names: Small hydro, Mini hydro, and Micro hydro. The model
provides a means to assess the available energy at a potential
small hydro site and the portion of this available energy
that can be harnessed by the local electric utility. Three
standard worksheets (Energy Model, Cost Analysis and Financial
Summary) as well as a hydrology worksheet are provided in
the small hydro Workbook file. Two different methods for
estimating project costs are provided : (1) the RETScreen
"Formula Costing Method" which is based on data collected
over the past 20 years for both large and small hydro facilities,
and (2) an optional itemised "Detailed Costing Method".'
